Prof. Guido Bellinghieri and Prof. Natale G De Santo organized the 1st Congress of the Mediterranean Kidney Society in Taormina. It took place on October 2-4, 2009 at Russotto Hotel and was attended by nephrologists from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Greece, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Italy, France, Spain, Malta, Serbia, San Marino, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Slovak Republic. The ERA-EDTA Group on Uremic Toxins organized a special Symposium. The Council of the Mediterranean Kidney Society included Guido Bellinghieri (President), Natale Gaspare De Santo (Secretary), Rashad Barsoum (Egypt), Athanasios Diamandopoulos (Greece), Mohammed Benghamen Gharbi (Morocco), Batya Kristal (Israel), Radoslav Kveder (Slovenia), Mohamed Aziz El Matri (Tunisia), Mariano Rodriguez (Spain), Yahya Sagliker (Turkey). The Council of Representatives included: Alessandro Balducci (San Marino), Jadranka Buturovic Ponikvar (Slovenia), Rim Goucha-Louzir (Tunisia), Petar Kes (Croatia), Tahar Rayane (Algeria), Halima Resic ( Bosnia and Herzegovina), Antonio Santoro (Italy), Giovanni Gambaro (Vatican), Emanuel Farrugia (Malta) .
Honorary Members were elected: Garabed Eknoyan, Shaul Massry, Gabriel Richet.

Second Congress of the Mediterranean Kidney Society - Milazzo (ME), Italy, April 12-14, 2013 | |||
It took place in Milazzo on April 2-4, 2013 under the presidency of Biagio Ricciardi, chairman of the Division of Nephrology at the Milazzo General Hospital (Fig6)l. More than 200 speakers attended. They came from Italy, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, France, Spain, Malta, Germany. Very interesting case reports were illustrated by young Algerian Nephrologists. The ERA-EDTA Group on Uremic Toxins organized a special Symposium. Members of the council 2013-2015 were elected : Guido Bellinghieri (President) , Natale G De Santo (Secretary), Ayse Balat (President Elect), Tarek Fayad (Egypt), ), Athanasios Diamandopoulos (Greece), Batya Kristal (Israel), Radoslav Kveder (Slovenia), Mohamed Aziz El Matri (Tunisia), Mariano Rodriguez (Spain), Yahya Sagliker (Turkey). The 3rd Congress of Mediterranean Kidney Society - Cappadocia, Turkey - June 10-13, 2015 Kapadokya Lodge Hotel | |||
The Congress was organized in Cappadocia (Capadokya Lodge Hotel) on June 10-13, 2015. The congress well organized by Ayse Balat was structured on 20 sessions. A special session was dedicated to organ donation. Invited speaker for that was Reginald Green from Los Angeles, the Father of Nicholas who was shot by criminal while vacationing in Italy and his organ saved 7 Italians. In that session a Videoclip created by Giusy De Rosa for the Italian Institute of Philosophical Studies and entitled The Italian Places of Nicholas Green was also shown. Some 200 specialists attended. There were speakers from Turkey (great presentations on Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome), Italy, Egypt, USA, France, Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Libya, Tunisia, Greece, Poland, and Algeria. The remarkable number of excellent case reports from Algerian scientists was very much appreciated. The session on epidemiology of kidney diseases in Mediterranean countries was very informative about the common nephrologic problems, and was an excellent chance to share the experiences. This congress has also brought together with pediatric and adult nephrologists, and it was important in terms of learning to hand over the children to each other. Members of the Council 2015-2017 were elected: Ayse Balat (President), Halima Resic (President Elect), Natale Gaspare De Santo, (Secretary), Tarek Fayad, Abdulhafid Shebani; Vincenzo Savica; Fatma Ben Moussa; Costas Fourtounas; Biagio Ricciardi (Webmaster). The Council of Representatives included: Enisa Mesic (Bosnia&Herzegovina), Jadranka Buturovic Ponikvar (Slovenia), Jamil Hachicha (Tunisia), Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu (Turkey), Sanjin Racki (Croatia), Tahar Rayane (Algeria), Emanuel Farrugia (Malta), Banu Sadıkoğlu, Turkish Republic of North Cyprus. The Fourth Congress of the Mediterranean Kidney Society (Bosnia and Herzegovina 2018) | |||
The 4th Congress of the Mediterranean Kidney Society (MKS) has been successfully completed in Mostar, the historical city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 20-22 April 2018. As in the previous MKS Congresses, it was a great scientific meeting composed of invited lectures as well as oral and poster presentations with topics of interest for every participant in nephrology, dialysis and transplantation. In addition to the scientific events, an enjoyable social program made the participants very happy in this culturally diverse city of Mostar.
We have seen proudly MKS represents a successful model of cooperation among Mediterranean countries and makes our borders less noticeable.
Professor Halima Resic is elected the new president of the Mediterranean Kidney Society (MKS). We congratulate her, and heartedly thank to our new President Prof. Halima Resic, and Prof. Enisa Mesic (Chair of Scientific Committee) providing this beautiful atmosphere, and also to Prof. Sanjin Racki, the organizer of the 5th MKS Congress in Croatia. |
